Happy Holidays in Turkey – Market and Breakfast

Breakfast a la Rose

Just back and cannot sleep … from my first foreign holiday in years to Dalyan in Turkey. It truly was a kind of paradise ,which for me must include delicious food and the week was no disappointment , I have so many pictures of so many meals more will follow . Above however is the “Turkish Breakfast” served at our guesthouse and made by a woman who never slept , but cooked up a storm in a tiny kitchen , herbs( rockets and parsley) , tomatoes , cucumber picked straight from the garden ,served with olives, boiled eggs, cheese , honey , home made preserves and fresh bread . Turkish breakfast followed these basic ingredients in Dalyan anyway and if all the other food had not been equally fresh and delicious I could probably have lived on them.

Tea in Turkey

Turkey I was happy to see is very keen on tea ,I rarely drink coffee it makes me a bit hyper, but in Turkey it seems there are hundreds of different types of tea often served in small tulip shaped glasses , our guesthouse owner would make it for the dustbin men and coachdrivers even on boat trips the first thing was a cup of tea and more than 30 seconds in a shop and tea would be produced

Just a five minute walk from our guesthouse on the first day was a beautiful market , with peaches the size of melons & melons the size of small children , I stocked up which came in very useful when later in the week I bough “pouring yogurt” instead of milk, fresh peaches in yogurt was a quick breakfast for early starts

Dalyan Market also had spices galore ,which Turkish cooks put to massive range of use more to follow in further posts …. but it sure beats Schwartz…………….
